About Susan &  Serenity  & Yoga

Serenity Massage came into being in 1995 when Susan Hamblen graduated from The Florida Institute of Massage Therapy.  Susan is a Florida native and moved to Stuart to begin her practice.  She fell in love with the downtown Stuart area and in 1996 rented her first space right on Osceola St ... and the adventures began...

Susan is in awe of the human body, loves to study, is a real book worm and life long student of everything.  She has studied numerous techniques over the years and anatomy from every angle.  Constantly adding to her knowledge base, keeping her skills up to date and growing as a therapist and human being.

The State of Florida requires more than 500 hours of initial massage therapy training and 24 hours of continuing education every 3 years.  Florida uses the National Massage Therapy exam as its' licensing test.  Susan is proud to be a member of the Associated Bodywork & Massage Professionals.

Teacher training was obtained through The Southern Institute of Yoga Instructors.  Betty Larsen and John Charping (SIYI) train teachers using an Iyengar based style of yoga.  The use of props and attention to anatomy, alignment and safety was just what Susan looking for. Her vision to meld massage therapy skills with a movement based training created Serenity Massage & Movement Therapy.

In 2007 Susan purchased an office space,  built it out the way she had envisioned and opened her combination massage & yoga studio.  Serenity Massage & Movement Therapy and Ahimsa Yoga Therapy... a dream come true.

The studio is located in the Central Parkway Professional Plaza (behind Blockbuster) on Central Parkway in Stuart.  A small oasis of calm amid the hustle and bustle.  Massage is available by appointment only.  General operating hours are Tues-Sat 10-6.  Sessions can be scheduled for 60-120 minutes.  These sessions will always start with an evaluation of your current condition.  You may choose to combine yoga and massage during your allotted time.  Susan does love to assign 'homework' and feels, with guidance and awareness, you are the best therapist/teacher for your own body.  She welcomes your input and insights and appreciates (and expects)  your cooperation and participation.

The yoga studio, Ahimsa Yoga Therapy, can accommodate up to 6 students.  Like any Iyengar style studio, numerous props are available.  Classes are taught from a therapeutic view.  Poses are deconstructed and learned piece by piece to ensure the safety of everyone.  Instruction of basic yoga poses, their contraindications and intent, are the focus.  Classes are currently held on Tuesday evening at 6p.  Please contact the studio for more information.  Space is limited so please call ahead to ensure your spot.
